OscarMonster
My son loves monsters. Everytime he sees a picture of one, or any of my sculptures, he growls at them. So I made this one for him.

Work In Progress, Spring 2010
I have started other pieces as well but these are closer to being done than the others. So when the other four pieces are finished or close to it I will post them. Most of my work is about the grotesque, pushing the borders of what is and what is not; to challenge established boundaries and to construct new ones. The grotesque has a range of expression that runs from the wondrous to the monstrous to the ridiculous. I want to wander from the ideal beauty which has only one standard, whereas the variations and combinations for the grotesque have limitless possibilities. The grotesque exists on a broad spectrum and is only defined by what it does to boundaries, transgressing, merging, overflowing, destabilizing them. ...the grotesque is a boundary creature and does not exist except in relation to a boundary, convention, or expectation. So you could say that something as beautiful as a unicorn or a Pegasus as fairytale creatures are grotesque but not necessarily monstrous but wondrous; both of them pushing the boundary of what is horse and something else. The grotesque is a constant struggle with the boundaries of the unknown...
